Comediante y cantante estadounidense. En su niñez hacía payasadas y cantaba por unas monedas en las esquinas de su ciudad natal, Nueva York. Abandonó la escuela primaria, no pudo conservar ningún empleo debido a sus irreprimibles payasadas y pronto entró al vodevil como cantante y bailarín maquillado como negro. Realizó giras con las Follies de Florenz Ziegfeld y con los Shuberts. Se presentó en varias revistas de Broadway y entre 1923 y 1926 fue estrella de Kid Boots. Desde 1931, Cantor se presentó como comediante estable durante 18 años en The Chase and Sanborn Hour. Entre sus filmes están Escándalos romanos (1933) y ¿Hombre o ratón? (1936). En la década de 1950 fue anfitrión de un show de televisión.
